A new iPhone application for the University of California, San Diego’s Stuart Collection provides a fresh way for visitors to interact with the internationally renowned sculpture collection. Developed at no charge by UC San Diego alumnus John VanZandt, the app is a compilation of short videos that describe each piece of art, from conception through implementation, and makes for a complete self-guided tour. Designed for iPhone and iPad, the Stuart Collection app is available as a free download.
“We’re thrilled with the generosity of John VanZandt,” said Mary Beebe, director of the Stuart Collection. “With his help we are now better able to share the Stuart Collection with students, alumni and the entire campus and San Diego community.” The videos are also available on UCSD-TV, iTunes, and YouTube.

Full Press Release
The Stuart Collection is pleased to announce the installation of Do Ho Suh’s Fallen Star, a small house that has been picked up by some mysterious force, (perhaps a tornado) and “landed” on the roof of Jacobs Hall on Warren Mall. Suh's work explores the notions of home and displacement, the cultural meaning of space, and the relationship between the personal and the collective. A roof garden is part of Suh’s design and will be a place with panoramic views for small groups to gather. This can be seen as a “home” for the vast numbers of students who have left their homes to come to this huge institution, the university.
