The Stuart Collection's newest project proposal

Do-Ho Suh 's

Fallen Star

Project Description:

Do-Ho Suh is an important artist who lives in Seoul, Korea and New York City. Among his major concerns are the notions of home and displacement, the relationship between the personal and the collective, and the cultural meaning of space.  For the Stuart Collection, Suh has proposed Fallen Star : a small house which has been picked up by some mysterious force, reminiscent of the Wizard of Oz, and “landed” on a centrally located building, seven stories up.  The house, as can be seen in the image, is cantilevered out over the edge of the building. It can be entered from the roof and roof garden (part of Suh’s design) and it serves as a small student/faculty lounge or meeting room.  This could also be a “home” for the vast numbers of students who have left their homes to come to this huge institution, the university, which has nothing even resembling a home.  It promises to be an unforgettable image and experience.

You can help us with this amazing project!  We are an on-going program and independently raise the funds necessary for the production of the art works.  As you know, this is a particularly challenging time to be seeking financial support for the arts.  Contributions of any size at all towards this endeavor are fully tax-deductible and will be most welcome. Please send your check made out to UC San Diego Foundation-Stuart Collection to the address below.  Alternately, credit card donations may be made by sending the donation amount, your credit card number, the expiration date, and your signature.  Thank you for your support of this amazing new project!
