Mathieu Gregoire has managed the commissioning and acquisition of permanent works at the University of California San Francisco’s new Mission Bay campus, as well as for the Stuart Collection at the University of California San Diego. He was Assistant Professor at the Art Department of the University of Nevada Las Vegas and is a Lecturer at UCSD.
Gregoire creates large scale public projects as well as more intimate temporary installations that involve both found and fabricated objects. His temporary installations include Artpark, the Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh, and the Kohn Turner Gallery in Los Angeles. His sculpture has been acquired by the Lannan Foundation, the Oakland Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. Permanent works include ‘Blue Granite Shift’ at the California Center for the Arts completed in 1995, ‘River Shift’ at Waterfront Park in Portland, Oregon completed in 1999, and ‘Equipment Field’, 2002, an installation of seven large elements at the new Mile High Stadium in Denver, done in collaboration with two other artists. He has created master plans for sites such as the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant, bringing together artists and design professionals. He has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation.
